Probably not. The switch connection probably does not short horizontally. You need to check with a meter and it would be best if you were to draw a schematic of that section.

First you need to unsolder the switch because otherwise it will either be off, fan or cool.

Check what the switch does - probably 2 pole 3 position switch - and then reproduce function. If you don't want Fan and are happy with Off and Cool then you could use a 2 pole relay (assuming it is a 2 pole 3 position switch).

I'm thinking it may be easier if I interject a Sonoff at the main line coming in, as long as it falls under the 10A/16A max... Except I don't know how many amps are drawn when the unit starts up as well as when its running... Technically it would only be the inside wall unit, not the condenser outside which would be involved, so maybe its not that bad?
