I'm probably wrong but... the module looks very much approved already!

If you make a search on the FCC website, the application information comes up.

Even the certification is shown in the manufacturer's website: http://espressif.com/en/products/esp8266/

Doesn't it mean that the approval has been granted and that we are free to use it in commercial products?

I don't think so. SOC core probably works at 1.xV like in ARM chips.


Maybe, so I can apply 5V to the chip.... :-) I am going to ask the factory and we will get a answer.

My gut feel from years of experience is they are playing a fast one, the SPI flash would need to be driven also from that regulator, and I sure its not.

Internal regulator has its limits.
Check CC2530 block diagram for example.

You can apply 5V and it's gonna blow up.

Acceptable voltage range is [1.7V, 3.6V].
