Just ordered https://goo.gl/JVsOFD with 25Q64 flash memory, that's 8 Megabytes or 64 Megabits. On Ebay they are selling breakout boards for the ESP8266-07, 2 for $0.99, the EXP8266-100 is the same foot print as the EXP8266-07. I hope the NodeMCU upgrade their memory, I prefer that hardware, it always flashes.

That's a good thing - but those boards need an external WiFi antenna - which makes them a pain to use. Are there any with the larger memory *and* an on-board antenna?

The pain is trying to seat that tiny connector, still easier than reassembling a Galaxy Note phone after replacing the screen, that antenna connector is a miniature of the ufl/ipx connector.
You can get the antenna and a pig-tail for less than a $1 in numbers, without a remote antenna WiFi/BlueTooth devices have limited use for my applications. I have yagi antenna's for point to point between out building, a lot cheaper than burying cable. A neighbor wants two miles between points, battery operated security devices with image capture and storage, transmission on demand. I'm waiting on a shipment of W25Q128 for my ESP8266-201 boards, remote antenna, big memory, all GPIO accessible. Check out the ufl/ipx pig-tail antenna, I saw 6 for a $1 the other day.
Now that someone is building with the 25Q64 flash memory others will follow, I expect to see the 12E to become 12EX with a 8MB flash soon. And I hope Arduino (SPIFFS) and RBOOT catch up so we can actually use the memory, I'm still trying to figure out the 'paging system' they use.

And it's started already:
WEMOS D1 mini Pro - 16M Bytes Flash that is a 25Q128 MegaBit chip. $5 https://goo.gl/qU32d6
Got the Battery Shield / charger for $2.50 no shipping. https://goo.gl/Cq6rAq
I checked on the EMW3165 and it's WiFi + BLE update, the EMW3165 has gone up in price (Dollar gone down in worth) and the WiFi + BLE EMW3239 has not made it out of the factory... These are Broadcom products and they have the same issues as Espressif, lack of ability to communicate technical information or as they say: It's my IP property, mine, mine, mine!
I hope the NodeMCU group gets the hint, along with the SPIFFS Ardnuio people and the RBOOT person.
