#70029 Please never give up on any problem ever, Sometimes I find solutions to problems when I am about to give up. I faced the same problem you have and solved it please consider the circuit which I used to solve it. This circuit is tested and working without any problems, no unwanted relay operation, the default state is relay off unless microcontroller drives it ON, I used this circuit on an 89C2051 microcontroller.

#70303 Had the same problem with ESP-01. Was using it as a garage door opener. On power up the relay would pulse on, I used a KSP13 (Darlington transistor) which has a high input impedance. I had a 27k resistor in the base circuit with a 10uf capacitor to ground and this cured the problem. Hope this helps.
