ESP-01 firmware confusion

HI All
I have never posted to any forum in my very long life, so apologies if this is the wrong place and wrong method.
I have been trying to update the firmware on ESP-01

I can flash the following:

AT version:0.21.0.0
SDK version:0.9.5

or

AT version:0.22.0.0(Mar 20 2015 10:04:26)
SDK version:1.0.0
compile time:Mar 20 2015 11:00:32

but despite days of effort and frustration NOT the following

v0.9.2.2 AT Firmware.bin
or
esp_iot_sdk_v1.5.0_15_11_27a (using the individual bin files)

or
ai-thinker-v1.1.1 (1).bin

I had one chip with ai-thinker-v1.1.1 and via Arduino uno and BLYNK could turn digital pins on and off and read analogue ports , but as soon as it was power cycled it went into continuous loop basically bricked.
Could not then flash v1.1.1 but only those listed above.
going crazy

if I posted incorrectly my apologies

HELP!

Heya,

please post the picture of your ESP-01, there is a very high probability that your ESP is 512k one.
Latest AT firmwares require at least 1M of flash RAM.

Hi Mozz

Thanks for your reply. That makes total sense.
I will get a pick up as soon as I can. It seems that I naively assumed that all I had to do was flash the down loaded bin files.
I guess I will have to learn about compiling etc., bit hard when your brain is as old and decrepit as mine

Cheers and thanks

Paul
