I'm fairly new to all this but I'm willing to remove the chip if someone is willing to guide me on probing it... I have a raspberry pi which I planned on using to attempt to talk to it...

If you just remove the metal cap and probe the chip to module connections with a multimeter and then figure out which module pin connects to the buttons, LEDs, and pin Y which controls the relay and which ones go to the programming header then that's all you need.
