In this video you can see my simple solution for 5v to 3.3 v changer for your arduino projects or stand alone projects with ESP8266.

The AMS 1117 is a nice chip, You can get it in module form from a number of sources.
You can also put 3 diodes in series to drop the 5v down to around 3v in a pinch as well.
