Yeah I was hoping that you only threw away some packets, like I had mentioned even tossing 75% of them still gets you a fairly usable throughput and at least allows things like small mass storage drives to be made

Nah, interrupts due to wifi and the like seem to cause dropped packets, but, read-speed is much more systemic. If you can't read fast enough to keep up all the time, there is no hope.
I am still surprised there's no side-channel. Some DMA that I could reconfigure, something like that?
