sdk_wifi_station_get_connect_status() returns 255 constantly

I'm using esp-open-rtos which is (as I see it) improved esp rtos sdk.
Everything looks goodm but somehow in basic "HTTP get" demo without changing anything
sdk_wifi_station_get_connect_status() returns 255 and system refuses to connect to AP.
Is there any suggestion why this happens?
