The ESP8266 only takes 3.3 Volts. You should supply this by taking it from the 5V relay, top right corner, which is 3.3V.

My own learnings:
- ground the GPIO0 pin to start the flashing mode, but after you do the grounding, repower the ESP unit
- ensure the serial port is not used by other program, such as Coolterm (on Mac)
- for some USB to TTL converters you need to reverse connect TX and RX
- ensure you have 115200 baud rate set on Arduino IDE

Hi I am interested in knowing how you program the on-board MCU (STC15F104W)
can you do this using the Arduino IDE? And did you have any luck in getting this to work with the ESP8266?

I have hooked up an ESP8266 directly to the opto isolator input on the following relay module
