I keep following all the tutorials, but whenever I try to connect my 8266 to computer through Arduino uno I get this message:
Arduino: 1.6.13 (Windows 10), Board: "Generic ESP8266 Module, 80 MHz, 40MHz, DIO, 115200, 512K (64K SPIFFS), ck, Disabled, None"

Sketch uses 221,995 bytes (51%) of program storage space. Maximum is 434,160 bytes.
Global variables use 31,568 bytes (38%) of dynamic memory, leaving 50,352 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 81,920 bytes.
warning: espcomm_sync failed
error: espcomm_open failed
error: espcomm_upload_mem failed
error: espcomm_upload_mem failed

This report would have more information with
"Show verbose output during compilation"
option enabled in File -> Preferences.

How can I fix whatever this error is and get this module working?

Have you got TX & RX reversed?

Why are you trying to program via an Arduino? Use a FTDI serial adapter and reduce the number of variables.

buy a decent USB serial converter ...
or even sth like
http://www.ebay.at/itm/ESP8266-ESP-01-F ... 1656916611

n.b.: regarding the history of fake chips and marauding drivers: don't buy FTDI !
