the little chicken is an iOT device with accelerometer and little chicken audio that runs on a couple of #13 hearing aid batteries, shake it and it chirps. And was 50 cents at the Salvation Army store in Wareham MA. STEM teachers are frugaler than the normal teacher.

multimeter test is brilliant, that will rule out a lot, great common sense. (which is often uncommon)
