. As for version, The arduino ide board: nodemcu 1.0, physical board printed on back nodemcu v3
I added the serial.print's in the isr for troubleshooting, I've taken them out and may further reduce what's in isr. I'll also look into iram if I need to.
I was running on various micro usb sources but will add a known stable source for testing.
