I still suspect this to be an issue with esptool or the driver (more likely). I can't reproduce it. Please add it to https://github.com/marcelstoer/nodemcu-pyflasher/issues

I can confirm that it works on Windows 7 and a CP2102 driver. This is one of two commonly found USB-to-serial chips (the other being CH34x).

I have a classic chip FTDI FT232RL only.
