I suspect at this point - there is (yet another) issue with my serial handling. Can you post the startup messages up to when the ">" prompt appears - data on the build you've got? I can try it out myself and see. I am certain that the serial handling has bugs, times out and fails to work with all NodeMCU builds or controllers - fixes are required to get it more stable on all of them.
