EEk, I too have this issue with 1.6.3, i installed 1.6.3 from my previous version of 1.5.7, and then copied the esp8266 com folder to hardware, and after starting ide i can see and select the generic board and port, but i also have not gotten any entry for the esptool in my programmer list. i am sooo soooo sooooo desperate for this method to work. Desperatly hoping this will work or be fixed. and maybe stickied on the forum as there seem to be a growing number of posts on this. :)

the weird thing is that you can just click the upload icon and it works, you don't need to see esptool listed in the programmer menu!

It's supposed to work that way. But mine won't compile.

Hi,

I have not tried out Ingmar's solution with 1.6.3 yest, but I did manage to get the whole thing working, Windows 7 32-bit), and a pre-canned version of 1.6.1. Just scroll down to the comments here:

Of course, ideally what Ingmar suggested would be a better option as it is Arduino IDE version-independant, and one can use the latest.

Regards.
