Thanks a lot for the help. Indeed GPIO16 doesn't have pull-ups. I have tried now with the internal pull-ups and also 10k resistors on pins 0 and 2 and it works fine. Just for the sake of information I'm using Lolin Nodemcu V3 dev board, that as far as I can tell doesn't have pull-ups for those pins on the board as version V2 (by Amica?) does. Cheers.
