I'm wondering if there is a way to change a variable remotely, like sending a value using the url of the NodeMCU/ESP8266 or something like that, or sending commands using command line or scripts etc?

I'm trying to create a wireless thermostat, and would like to be able to change the set temperature remotely.

This can be done using URL with parameters send to Webserver sketch.
