shouldn't a clean copy of the "esp_init_data_default.bin" flashed (or at least cleared, gets regenerated on first boot) with every upload of sketch?
Maybe this and a "clean" of the rf_calib sector should be a default in the flash tool?

(By googling) I figured out the problem and a work-around. The problem seems to be that the RF module is not properly initialised when the device is powered on or awakes from reset.

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of that bug.
You don't have the link by any chance, do you?

Assumption is the mother of all f*ckups. At least: that's what I'm assuming.
