I am also on Windows, started by "just reading makefiles" and managed to get a fair feeling on it. Not enough to update but understanding most of it : yes.
But .. Indeed, you pointed to another missing/wrong item in Sming. Thanks for reporting.
Flashboot and flashonefile are not valid targets anymore, they should be removed from project or get new functionality.
Flashinit creates an "empty" esp. Used when you have "serious trouble" with flashed applications.
Need to check whether it's valid for all esp's out there.
