To be honest I've never read the whole thing. I was thinking about ping and ICMP generally, did a quick browse then got distracted by something else. Just stuck in my mind... I don't know how it works here but if there's some ICMP support in the underlying layers on the chip as you'd expect then it should be pretty accessible via an api I would have thought.
