Check to see if it spits out an ip address on boot over the serial terminal.

Thank you, I'll try both these suggestions tonight and report back.

Well, no luck at all.

I have tried;
- 3 different nodeMCU modules, including a brand new unused one
- 2 different computers (both Win10 however)
- the ESP-Basic_Flasher, the nodeMCU flasher, and flash tool 2.4
- 512, 1, 2 and 4M firmwares

I can successfully flash nodeMCU, the original AT firmware, but despite the flasher claiming "success", not ESP8266 Basic.

When I reset the module on the serial line I see a bit of garbage (0‚~?–4û!ƒ[13]{ƒ[04]OAaû), then nothing. The only sensible output I get is with the nodeMCU or AT firmware loaded, and when I use the Basic_Flasher to do a format I see "Formating", then a return code of 1.

In summary, I can successfully flash everything except basic :(

I would really like to get it working, as I think Basic is the only way I'm going to achieve anything with the ESP, so I'm willing to try any other suggestions anyone might have.

Thanks again,

Ian.

Can you give a detailed step by step of what you do?
