Although it is not a good practice, tying RES pin directly to VCC can not cause some damage because it never becomes initialized as an output, unlike GPIOs where tying them to VCC or GND can destroy them if they become initialized to an output, like GPIO15/GPIO2/GPIO0.
You're right, for the 1K pullups/pulldowns, it is a bit to strong, I would recommend 4K7 or 10K.

How so? If those pins aren't used as outputs, then there's no serious current being pulled through those resistors except for when a pushbutton is hit.

it should have improved stability, better antenna, 4 layer pcb.

Unless it wasn't already there 4 days ago, then you must not have looked very hard because it's stated right in the product description... Now of course it is in chinese but I've translated it using google, so do expect some errors, though it's not a plain copy/paste, I did properly copy the tables, images, etc.. to make it easier to read.
