IR receiver TL1838 or ST1089 (for Wemos D1 mini)

Hi,

I'm new here. So sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong topic.

I'm trying to build a IR receiver based on a Wemos D1 mini board (I will use the IRremoteESP8266-library). I've found some posts about this on some websites, but it is never clear to me if I should be using just the sensor (TL1838) or the module (ST1089).
Neither do I find a detailed description of what the advantage is of a ST1089 instead of TL1838. The only difference seems that the ST1089 has two components added to it, but nowhere described what this is good for...

Is there anyone who would be able to clear this out?

Thanks in advance!

From little searches, ST1089 seems to be 5V only, but TL1838, which much more common, can be powered from 2.7V up to 5.5V. There is also the TSOP4838 which I used successfully on Wemos D1.

Aah, yes indeed. Thank you for the quick reply!

But now you leave me with a new intriguing question, should I prefer the TSOP4838 above TL1838? ;)

Is it correct to assume that the difference is that the TSOP4838 has more fail-checks and protection built-in or are the differences situated elsewhere?
