I have NodeMcu board v 0.9 and I don't want to burn something...rather I will ask if I can connect 5V wire to some of NodeMcu 5V pin for VIN powering instead of USB power?

The 5V from USB goes through a schottky diode to the same point as Vin and then on to the 3.3V regulator. So you can safely connect 5V or greater into Vin. It will then use this power source rather than USB.

Problem with v 0.9 is that no pin is described as VIN, just 5V and this is used for VOUT. Lolin or v 1.0 has VIN described on pin 5V. How to know which 5V is VIN on board 0.9?
