Thanks for that info! I was having the same problem flashing my ESP-01 and after making that edit to esptool.py it is now working fine!

Hi,
I have just had the same problem with trying to flash nodemcu firmware to an ESP8266 using the ESP8266Flasher program. I had been using a cheap usb to TTL cable and found that changing to a cable that used the FTDI chip (TTL-232R-RPi Debug Cable for Raspberry Pi ) cured the problem.
Prior to this, I had been using the cheaper cable to program an EPS8266-01 in Lua with no problems.
