There are no details. "esptool_0.0.2-1_i386.deb" simply is an x86 package.

However, I gave up a long time ago. It took ages until this thread was actually approved. This whole forum seems rather useless to me. Waiting a week before your threads appear is kind of ridiculous.

I went the oldfashined route and digged up the official documentation efpressif is providing. And as it turns out they provide a complete vm image with almost everything preinstalled.

Whoever created that crappy github tutorial: SHAME ON YOU! 32 open issues; 0 replies.

Have you seen or tried https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/esptool?
It builds without problems on Debian-8.6/amd64.
