Even if it would be programmable, you will loose the original firmware, therefore GSM will be gone, except if Espressif/AIThinker provide an SDK for it, which is not the case currently.

- Sat Aug 27, 2016 2:41 am #53897 Yes, for now the A6 is not a very useful device, aside from a dumb modem. And there is much more involved in connection, power and data management when using Cellular -vs- WiFi than just issuing AT commands.
On the positive side, the 'NC' pins on the commonly shown diagrams have been identified as GPIO pins!
