Thanks for your answer,
I know what substring is for and I also suggested that here, the separation of the value from the string is managed but why 9?
I didn't solve to get any serial output to the serial monitor so I was asking myself how the string looks like, that Homebridge sends to the ESP.
For Brightness there should be a value between 0 and 100 so I tried to get everything after character 9, in hope that there is nothing behind this value.
obviously this doesn't work.
Perhaps it could help if someone could explain how to get the serialprint information to my monitor. I'm afraid I'm too much noob for this :(

I solved to get the serial output work at 9600baud so now everything is clear.
The strings look like follows:

Code: Select allGET /brightness_s1/86 HTTP/1.1


So I have to extract the value (here 86) out of this string.
