Espressif have released a app note for IR remote control

Hi Guys, Did any body succeed in running IRLib on ESP8266 only?
I have aREST running on ESP8266 and IRLib running on Arduino nano. I'm hoping I can remove my Arduino nano and attached the IR LED to GPIO2 directly.
If you guys can share anything in that regard - would be kindly appreciated.
