Hrmmm interesting way to accomplish the task I wonder if someone could use something similar for their hot water heater some how would be a worth while venture if you are away from home for an extended period of time would be nice to control remotely in case temps fall I really dig the whole IOT movement but their are some issues I take with it as well...

Sure you can add a sensor to track the tempreture and based on it you can control the heater with ( big relays ) as the heater most likely use lots of amps
