Never tested it on the ESP8266, on the AVR, it works out to ~100 bytes of RAM, ~4kB of flash. The lights out game is ~80 bytes of RAM on top.

180B of RAM usage, huh? Sounds like room is available. Maybe link the IO port registers to switches so that lights could be toggled by the AVR?
