This is what I've been able to find on eBay. Is it the regulator I'm looking for? (wanted to make sure the SOT-89 didn't affect things.)

It should be XC6203E332PR SOT-89 for 3.3V, 3E302 is 3.0V. SOT-89 just refers to the package type.

It is an SMD component but pretty easy to solder to.

Why not suggest a sound solution like a low drop voltage regulator?
Costs maybe 50c but is a safe and sound solution.
Good ones even just pass the voltage( with nominal drop) if input is below 3.3V


I was thinking more about LIFEPO4, which suits the cheapo method better....

Yes a LDO is probably best but it seemed he was after a 0.01 solution....
