Distance measurements mean little to me if it doesn't include rssi numbers.

Fair point; we'll be waiting for your test results.

Most of us will not have the ideal line of sight good weather outdoor tests that were done to demonstrate maximum range. Most of us are stuck with the walls or floors in our homes and metal appliances that cast shadows so each of us will experience different ranges. If two or more esp8266 running the same software experience the same range then you can eliminate a hardware issue and begin to accept the range you got.

I think the point is not the antenna.
Single ESP when works on STA mode, the range is 2x
Single ESP when works on STA+AP mode, the range is x
That was what I have discovered. I used PCB antenna, if I switch it to normal antenna, it would be better but still the ratio (2x - x) would be the same. Please comment if anyone has some knowledge about effect of AP+STA mode over antenna.

Thanks.
