and yes I know what I want to do and why, and yes disabling wdt is the correct and only fix in that specific use case that I'm not going to discuss (especially with you).

My point is that there is SPECIALISED subforum for arduino questions, so why ask them here?

Also "hardware watchdog" does not really justify the "hardware specific" section, as you're dealing with bogus software what's the problem.

Thanks a lot for this tip! I ended up in exactly the same situation (running Coremark on the ESP8266 and other chips in the ESP32 family for a comparo) and it got me out of the resetting trouble in short order.
