#1948 Unless you are running from a battery or high voltages (15+) don't bother with an SMPS.

If you need good efficiency or limited thermal waste, go with a synchronous bucks converter directly to 3.3v.
You might consider an extra LC filter for lower ripple, if needed.

Don't bother with an old LM2596.
