#58843 I haven't had the time to touch mine for ages, but to be honest.
I had to dig out my win7 laptop with its oh so slow startup to program it beyond the basic AT commands.

#58844 Not sure this will help much, but I do most of my 8266 programming from a Mac (mostly OSX 10.11 but now 10.12). Difference being I typically run a linux VM within virtualbox and use that (connecting the physical USB connection to the VM).

I have had a lot of problems with weird serial connection issues and restarts when powering and connecting to the modules over USB. I've finally narrowed it down to dodgy USB connection - either the cables I'm using (cheapos from aliexpress) don't make good connections, or my macbook air ports have worn down a bit. Since crimping a USB connector to make a tighter connection I've had no problems.
