#66890 Hello Everyone,

I had a small project in mind and while researching for it I came across ESP8266. This seems like a great fit for my idea in theory. Just want to know if its practical or not as well?

I want to create a super simple and super cheap WIFI controlled switch to control the power flowing through a wire. Is it possible with just ESP? If not, what else do I need and how should I work on it?

Thanks in Advance. :)

#66916 All you need is an ESP8266 module (any type) with specific firmware and a relay.

You can make a flying start using a Sonoff-module: this is exactly what you're looking for and they're pretty cheap (~ $10).

#66917 I am trying to make it myself, so would prefer not to use sonoff. :)

@quickfix would I need any kind of a power supply for the ESP as well or is there a way to power it using the wire its going to act as a switch for?

@atexit8 How much do they cost? Will they have problem with high load wires for devices like TV or AC?
