This is totally unrelated as far as esp8266 go, but if I had a project with audio, I'd probably go to AliExpress, I'd get me 10$ OpenWRT router or a board, I'd hook up a USB audio interface (which would make the entire thing like 12 bucks or so) and I'd just play whatever I'd want using Linux utilities like MPD or madplay. You can even have text to speech engine on those and streaming as well.
Don't beat me, I just think this is the simplest and most flexible solution for that :D
