WIRELESS CONTROL USING ESP-05

this module board is for a solar battery bank and i wonder if the ESP-05 in the diagram can be use as serial interface wirelessly.
i hope to be able to monitor and control it remotely or at least over wifi connection.
- will the connection in the diagram work? (concern: split/shared ground wire)
is there other way to communicate with it other then using AT+ command?
is there a better way to achieve this?
