Connecting grounds

Guys suppose that I have an esp8266 and two sensors.

What is the best methods to connect grounds?
Should I connect all the grounds to a common ground rail, or can I connect the gnd of the sensor a to the gnd of the sensor b and then connect that gnd to the esp?

Is it ok to do this?

depends on the length of the cable and the power drawn by the sensors, but in general: yes
