Understood, and I am equally concerned about keeping as much ram as possible.
What do you think about adding a uart.write or uart.out function so we can both output and input (uart.on()) to the serial stream?
It would enable "print" without added characters for terminal and also allow two boards to talk to each other.
In fact, if an ESP8266 was configured as a telnet with output to the uart, a second ESP8266 could be connected to it.
That would create a totally wireless programmer and free us from the worry of messing with hardware attached to our computer USB port.
Having already touched a pin to +12 accidentally and smoked one board, I start to worry about the port and computer damage that could result...
