Sorry, forgot to update the status here. The Pull request is created and already merged into the dev branch of NodeMCU. So I expect the functionality to be available in the next release.

Works great indeed, thanks! Tested it with both a single led and a strand of 30 WS2812b leds.

i get the error "stdin:1: attempt to index global 'ws2812' (a nil value)" when i try to run it. any tips?
