to create larger programms there could be a sd card support like those offered by arduinos.

I know this is a long idle topic, but I'm also looking for this ability. Any hope that we may see NodeMCU support for it?

Unlikely in the short term. The E parts have 4Mb Flash which is the nearest that you'll get to it in the medium term.
