Does the problem lie with the redirections that Google uses? Is there any way to set redirects ON in the header?

as far as I understand it's not only the Google redirect problem. It's how the Arduino code for esp handles big certificates. In the future there will be a patch.
Unfortunately I can't help for the Google redirects thing. If anyone has some idea..

anyway my project uses local time and NTP now to make the ESP do timed actions to control my RF sockets (like the rules in commercial WiFi plugs) so I've solved my problem for now. THE433: Home Automation with ESP8266, NodeMCU
