ESP8266 Community Forum

Recently updated my ESP8266 core from 2.5.0 to 2.5.2, and noticed quite some changes (the upload works better; WiFi server seems more stable) but now I tried to upload my sketch data to SPIFFS and it failed with this error:

SPIFFS Error: esptool not found!

I tried switching on verbose for uploads and compilation but no further information given. A Google search on that message also came up empty, only some old discussions, nothing recent. As a result I can not upload anything to SPIFFS suddenly, which is of course a serious issue.

Arduino IDE 1.8.9, Linux Mint.

Update: same problem on Windows 10. Also Arduino 1.8.9 & ESP core 2.5.2.

I get exactly the same problem and spent hours to find the solution.
But i found it!
You just need to update the esp8266fs.jar tool.
find the working version from here:
https://github.com/esp8266/arduino-esp8 ... -0.4.0.zip

invalid file corrupted
