I don't see why we're stuck with it - if enough people ask ESPRESSIF to change it .. better yet - when you set the baud rate using their commands it would be a doddle for them to store that and show their debug stuff at that baud rate . It's a pain having apparent rubbish coming out at startup.

if you don't tinker with the serial monitor settings, it is sufficient to change it once in "preferences.txt" of your arduino ide installation. Just search the line serial.debug_rate= and set it to 74880
