ESP8266 serialEvent() ?

Guys,

Am I hoping for to much for the serialEvent() to work with the ESP?

Any suggestions on how serial data can be received through the serial interface?

Is this possible in Arduino ESP8266 mode " ESP8266 serialEvent()" . Can the serial event be raised via interrupt as can be using native development?

Maybe it's possible to use the ticker library?!
