As a wifi module, it would be really useful if after connecting to an AP or having the AP be the hub, that the UART port could run PPP so that something like a Raspberry PI could use it instead of a USB WIFI dongle. I have other applications, but that is the basic idea, something not unlike one of those cellular modems that use a serial port and PPP. It would really just need to route packets between wifi and PPP, and not do much else (though with the point-to-point might need to do some address translation).
