I've reflashed the board several times and but nothing changes. So I'm beginning to think that the bootloader has been corrupted. Is that possible?

Are there any other possible issues?

#16888 Why 9600? Have you tried 115200 or other speeds? Before flashing a new ESP8266, did you just try running it with the default AT firmware it comes with?

If you are able to flash the ESP-01 and the flasher doesn't report a problem, the bootloader is probably OK.

Over the last several months, I've done just about everything imaginable to my ESP-01s, and I haven't managed to brick one yet. They are tough little guys.
